Nice, Mari! I like the overlap with my newsletter from today, which advocated being foolish as a form of courage and a way of finding one's own path to personal success.
My fond memories of CHI mainly revolve around seeing punk shows at the legendary Medusa's. You're too young for that, I believe. And while I'm not a DMB fan I'm happy to admit that "Satellite" is one of my favorite songs of all time.
I loved dancing at Medusa’s too! I was in college in Chicago in the mid-80s, just after the drinking age was raised to 21, and my friends and I used to go there to dance, because it was the only place we would be let it. Such fun memories!
Who would think a pre-schooler would be napping in the afternoon? My son gave up his (very short) afternoon nap when he was 2 1/2. HIs younger sister, who took a longer afternoon nap, also gave up napping at 2 1/2. Their favorite musicians to listen to when we all needed a little cheering up were James Taylor and The Gypsy Kings. Always made us feel better.
Oh yes! The Gypsy Kings was a favorite of ours too!
And I have to laugh at your nap comment, because I never napped either. (My sleep pattern as a baby, toddler, and preschooler was the same as Casey’s.) When I got to kindergarten at age 4, I learned that many of my classmates still took an afternoon nap. At the time I thought that was the most babyish thing I had ever heard of, but now I think that their moms had an extra hour of free time every afternoon!
Do you recall The Hamster Dance and the Dancing Baby screensaver?
I do not! I think you need to post a link!
And this one gets a creepy-ass trigger warning! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlG9yYW6Bi8
Yikes! That baby definitely inhabits the uncanny valley!
The original is gone, but here's a commercial that includes it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWXChTfyjpc
I… did not know about the poop incident. 🤢
I know! I didn’t know either before reading the NYTimes article, which had a link to the original story. Yuck!
That video of the people dancing was a shot of pure joy!
We had pre-bedtime dancing when my brother and I were little. The favorite was Louis Prima: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qr91dJvbqs&pp=ygUWbG91aXMgcHJpbWEgYnVvbmEgc2VyYQ%3D%3D
That Louis Prima number would be such a fun song to sing as you’re going to bed! My grandma always used to sing “Goodnight Ladies.”

I know! So interesting! Great minds think alike!
Indeed! :-)
