This is a truly thoughtful, creative article (what's new?!?) The comparison of the Taco regulations and the gun regulations are stunning. I'd love to see that circulated more broadly. Louise Wiener

I'm so glad you liked the article! I was being a bit facetious when I included the taco comparison, but I do think we should regulate guns like we do cars.

I would vote for all these measures.

I wonder if the idea of voting with your feet would actually help in cases of school shooters. Is it true that more shootings like those happen in places that allow open carry? I’m not sure but it’s doesn’t seem like that measure of disallowing open carry would help Stop criminals from committing crimes. I could be wrong of course.

These are good questions! I have no idea whether mass shootings correlate with open carry, or how big an impact walkouts in public places would have in the short term. I do think they would place a social stigma on guns, though, in a similar way to how eliminating smoking areas in restaurants and other public places stigmatized smoking and made it less appealing to others.

I guess it may be worth looking into. I also think smoking versus killing or attempted killing with a gun have different motivations and that stigma may not have same affect on the minds or behaviors of those that want to kill others versus those that wish to smoke. Of course I could be wrong! Thanks for responding😁
