I love this so much. And you've inspired me to be honest: I DON'T really care for the turkey.

When my eldest was in elementary school he (a guac lover) did an experiment to find the best method for quickly ripening hard avocados. Put them in a paper bag overnight. That's it. Then refrigerate when perfectly ripe.

The lasagna and quinoa salad turned out really good. The lasagna was a hit. I substituted mushrooms with soy crumbles. I definitely make them again; they are delicious and easy to make. Thank you so much for sharing the recipes.

Great read Mari. Since June I’ve been doing a gluten-free, dairy free, soy free and nut free diet, so this article brought me joy 😘

Than you for the recipes I will definitely try the lasagna for my vegetarian friends and my husband and I love mushrooms too. I throw a party yearly for my gIrlfriends and so the balancing act of dishes is a challenge. One is vegan who will eat vegetarian if that is the only option (in fact she told me a story recently of a visit to distant relatives for lunch where the only options were turkey or chicken salad sandwiches so she had to eat meat that day.) anyway I try to offer grilled vegetables and a side that works for her. Salad with cheese on the side (I love blue cheese on my salad but it is not everyone’s choice). The one I struggle with is gluten free. I serve a lot of pasta or bread! I recently discovered Tahdig which solves that issue. Anyone coming to my house who is dairy intolerant don’t bother. Every dish will have cheese or cream in large quantities! Sorry!

My Thanksgiving food story (I actually like turkey once I found Alton Brown’s recipe for brined turkey. Keeps it beautifully moist!) we were invited to our first thanksgiving by friends on arrival in the USA back in the 80’s the young man hosting forgot to remove the giblets before roaring it ugh!! The next year we hosted but forgot to allow enough time to defrost the turkey dinner was delayed to the weekend! Finally at another first thanksgiving on our next move back to the USA in the mid 90’s. Our new friends served all the traditional potato dishes (except mashed which would have saved the day for me) and faced with sweet potatoes in many forms I had never had them before and am not a fan. The following year I volunteered to bring my traditional British roast potatoes which became a huge hit with everyone and I was happy finally!

I think my advice is if you have a particular dietary requirement bring something you can eat or eat a big lunch at home first!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

I have to laugh, because I draw the line at dairy too! It was sooooooo hard to go off dairy when Noah and Casey were babies. And thanks for sharing the funny stories about your mishaps with the turkey! I remember my mom having to get up at 5am to start making the turkey every year, and I would always think to myself, no way am I doing this when I'm a grownup!

Oh I forgot to add my son has a nut and peanut allergy so we also have to be careful wherever he goes to eat!
