Lynn is adorable! Love to see dogs playing in the snow. My old dog used to slide on her back across the snow like a penguin lol.

It's funny, there's something about cleaning the peanut butter jar that brings out my best, I think I get out some aggression by vigorously shaking the jar. I'm shamelessly shiftless on many other domestic duties though. I do throw away some recyclables, and the dust—my god the dust!

I endorse the message of this blog wholeheartedly.

I love that your New Years' newsletter dovetails so nicely with mine on resolutions I might actually keep. I wonder if after Covid we are all feeling a little more forgiving since we've been confronted globally with life's frailty. I confess that I, too, sometimes THROW AWAY plastic and glass containers that could be recycled but I don't want to clean them. My house could also be cleaner, the laundry folded more expeditiously. I'm working more on being happy, which is hard enough some days.

I have a friend, whose Italian father would cringe whenever any one would say something like "I can't eat that because it's not good for you." He would typically respond that there was no such thing as "bad food" just unhealthy eating habits, i.e. eating too much, portion control, etc. Some ppl might think daily alcohol consumption is "bad" for you, but I agree with you. It's not what you eat or consume, but how much and within what context. Two glasses of wine a day given your lifestyle seems quite reasonable and might I add not bad. Cheers, Mari!

Cheers to you too! And your friend’s father is right--everything (excepting things like meth, obviously) is ok in moderation!

There are plenty of things I _don’t_ do (like your friend who doesn’t clean the oven) and I totally let the robot vacuum do the vacuuming, but I was pretty sure nearly everyone flosses every day! Who knew?!?! I can’t not floss.

You and my husband have that in common! I manage it about every other day. Good enough, I say!

As a(nother) big Fawlty Towers fan, please allow me to ask, what precisely is wrong with the sketch you refer to?

Oh who the heck knows? Maybe it’s thought to be offensive to Germans? Or offensive to imitate Hitler, even if it’s by holding a hairbrush under your nose and screaming unintelligibly?

Is there such thing as giving yourself TOO many freebies? 😬

I can meet every one of yours and add a hundred more indulgences I give myself without much guilt. (I see your daily glass of wine and full fat dairy, and raise you plenty of sugar and baked treats.)

Maybe this is why I love New Year’s resolutions. I never make ones that involve a lot of denial. In fact mine are almost always about new joys I want to bring into my life. Even typical resolutions that have to with food and fitness I try to reframe with a sense of gifting myself or having adventures. I want to hike and run more because I love being outside and seeing beautiful sights and building the endurance of my body to be able to do even more of that, not just because I want to be fit and skinny. I want to cook more because after a while take out and crappy food makes me feel miserable and doesn’t taste good and wastes money that could be spent on traveling or buying pretty things and plus when I make time for it I enjoy it so much! I have no intention of resolving to keep my house company-ready clean and organized because it would cut into my reading and relaxation time.

January reminds me a little bit of how it felt to be at the beginning of adulthood: anything is still possible this year! I don’t have to stay the same person I was last year. The credits haven’t rolled, and there is still another chapter to the story.
