I'm so sorry for your loss ❤️ But I'm glad that you and your dad were surrounded with love in those last days, and that you all found so many ways to make thoughtful choices to honor him. It's such a blessing you were all able to be together (I lost my mom during lockdown and the isolation made everything so much worse). Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us and take care of yourself.
Hi Mari--Adding my sympathies to those of your other friends. Deaths sucks and the fact that it awaits us all doesn't make losing someone special any easier in the moment. Hug your kids and give yourself grace. Sending much love and warm wishes, Theresa
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss, Mari. And what a beautiful tribute. I’m a fan of your parents - met your mom at the neighborhood book club. (We live in Kristin and Brett’s old house.) We’re so grateful to have found such a caring neighborhood, and I credit your parents for setting such a loving standard. Your dad’s life made such a positive difference in this world.
Thank you for sharing your last moments with your dad. I am sure you all gained comfort from being with him and each other. I listened to all 3 versions and loved the one by Judy Collins, I’ve always loved her voice. (Funny story, a good friend of mine was named Judy and married into the Collins name! She was forever saying “not that one” to new acquaintances!) I did not enjoy the opera /gospel version and was intrigued by the mix on Auld Lang Syne/there is a house in New Orleans. Hoping you find peace and comfort with your family as you grieve together.
Thanks, Alison. I admit to liking the Judy Collin’s version because many people have told me my voice sounds like hers. But my favorite is the Blind Boys’ version, which is haunting to me.
Mari, thank you for sharing these moments with us. Your dad was a phenomenal guy. I had no idea he raised pigeons! I remember when we were kids and you told us he made his own wine, and from that moment on I realized he was a unique and fascinating individual. My heart goes out to your mom, you, and the whole family. Sending lots of love.
I'm so sorry for your loss, but so happy that everybody got together and shared love and affection a final time. Wam thoughts and mantrams to you and Matt.
Mari, I am so sorry to learn of your father’s passing and inspired by your family’s devotion and beautiful demonstration of love and comfort to him and to one another. Please know that I’ll be thinking of you and your family and carrying you all in my heart in the days ahead.

I am so sorry about your mom. I can’t imagine how sad it would be to lose a loved one and not be able to be with them at the end.

Oh thank you for this lovely comment, Andrea. I will read it to my mom, and I know she will be touched.
A moving tribute to a life well lived, and a death as "good" as any might hope for. Be well.
Thanks. We do feel lucky that he went quickly and with almost no suffering.
❤️💔
That is such a sweet tribute, Mari. Thank you for allowing us a glimpse of your loving family ❤️
Thanks, Jan.

Thank you, dear friend. And than you for reminding me that he made wine—I have to put that detail in next week’s longer post about him.
What a lovely tribute to family and togetherness, Mari! The love you all had for your dad and each other surely gave him peace in his final hours!
Thanks, Ann.
Your father's gift to all who care about you--these versions of Amazing Grace for all of us.
Thanks, Kathleen.

Thanks. We are lucky that we have this time together. Matt has been such a wonderful support for the whole family.
